Privacy Policy and Website Terms: Emily McCoy Shares

Updated: 17 March 2025

Hello, thanks for taking the time to read this. I have done my best to keep it to the point.

This document covers how I use your data, terms of service and website terms too.

According to the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), the DPA (Data Protection Act) and the PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) I need to let you know that I am using your data and how. I realise that you may already know all of this (we are always being told about how our data is being used) but it is part of my professional practice to be clear with you and to fulfil my legal obligations.

So here we go!

The Headlines

If you follow me on Instagram @emily.mccoy.shares I will normally say hi at some point via a DM. You are very welcome to ignore this but it’s my way of reaching out and making a genuine connection in the maze that is social media. There’s never any pressure to like, comment or engage there – I get it, it’s public. But it’s also a space to find community, which is why I am there. So, if you want to engage with posts or say hi to me on a DM, I’d love to hear from you.

If you sign-up to hear from me, I will generally be in touch with a newsletter style email about once every two weeks. Sometimes I may be in touch more (if I’ve got something exciting to share) and sometimes less.

You can choose to unsubscribe from my emails at any time (this option is always at the end of each message). I would always love to hear from you and to hear about what resonates for you and what doesn’t. Always know, you should seek what fits for you – and I get that this might not be me and encourage you to unsubscribe if what I am saying doesn’t land for you.

The only data of yours I keep is your name and email address. I only use it for the purposes of contacting you (as described just now) and I won’t ever pass your data on to anyone else.

Cookies:

This site may use cookies and if you’d prefer not to have that happen, you can block them on your browser.

Online data and analytics:

I don’t currently but I might use Google Analytics to monitor who visits my site and where they go. This would help me to improve my web content. I might do this for Instagram data too – but as yet I haven’t made this a priority and I am not sure I ever will!

How I use your Data:

The main thing I use your data for (i.e. your name and your email address) is to send you emails with content that I hope is useful to you as you pursue emotional and mental health and wellbeing. I might also send you details of any new offerings or work that I am doing which I believe could be of benefit of interest.

If you’re a client paying for my services (for example, attending therapy or paying for mentoring), I hold additional data relating to our work together. This falls under the specific requirements of my professional ethical practice as a counsellor or as part of my own professional standards relating to one-to-one work or group settings. If you pay for my services in any of these ways then I will discuss the specifics of both how I use your data and the terms of our agreement at the point you make an enquiry and before we agree to work together.

If you would like to see an example of my “terms” or agreement document relating to paid services e.g. therapy, then please just email me and I will share it with you.

Btw, if you’re a therapy client or someone I have met professionally (e.g. running a day together, podcast interview or met at training) I won’t automatically add you to my email list. You will only receive an email from me if you have chosen to receive one or to receive a free resource.

If you want to work with me and it is a paid for service then I currently use bank transfers via HSBC. Your account name and chosen reference will be visible in my professional bank account but this data is anonymised at the point it enters my accountancy software.

Free resources

If you choose to download and use any resources made available for free on my website then you do so at your own risk. I am really happy that you want to access them and am also happy to share them with you. However, these resources do not in any way offer the same level of support and guidance as accessing professional help. If you have any concerns about your mental health or feel at risk of harming yourself or another person, then please seek help urgently via your GP, your local A&E department or via a charity which offers 24:7 support for example The Samaritans, Tel: 116 123.

Additional website terms

When you access this website you agree not to copy, reproduce or create other material using the content here. You also agree not to interact with the website in a way which is malicious or damaging e.g. hacking the website or introducing malware. If I link to any other third parties via this website, then please know I am not responsible for their content. And if you use any information from this website then you do so under your own responsibility and at your own risk.

Finally!...

If you have any questions about this you can contact me at emily@emilymccoyshares.co.uk you can also unsubscribe this way too.
